She began yesterday with one drum and little 2-second flurries. Day 2, here she is with multiple instruments and putting together recurring beats. Sweet! (and yes, it was just the Blackberry Cam)

Digital Orality and the Online Video Conversation:
Simulating Synchronicity and Preserving Humanness in Distance Communication 

This was presented on June 19th at St. Louis University for the Tenth Annual Convention of the Media Ecology Association. Staying in line with my larger (dissertation) topic, this presentation discusses the use of Seesmic in the online, asynchronous classroom. Seesmic offers immediate, ongoing conversations on virtually any topic. With its threaded, conversational videos, it offers conversing participants a more immediate, nearly seamless way to communicate that preserves much of the social presence of face-to-face dialogue and creates an almost synchronous exchange of ideas.

Don’t worry - I do not read the paper through the entire presentation. I battled using it, at all, but it was requested that I read it, so I did so for the background and set up of the topic.

Humanness and the Semi-Synchronous Situation in the Asynchronous Online Classroom
It discusses the use of Viddler in the online, asynchronous classroom, including an account of data collected through a student survey. This, is getting closer to my dissertation topic, but not quite exact.

Here is the video of the topic I presented at the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing Conference. “Embedded Online Video Conversations: Simulating Synchronicity in the Online Classroom .” Low light= low quality, but it’s there. If anyone wants to see the PPT (since it’s not really visible in the video), I’ll post it.

Here is the PowerPoint Pres. One you begin the above video, immediately click play on this PPT video below; it should all be pretty synched-up. The formatting is a bit wonky on the Participation screen, but not devastatingly so.

First Time Shooter

‘Tis true, until 01.03.09, I had never shot a gun. So, I hit the Scottsdale Gun Club, laid down some funds, watched an 8-minute safety video, and was immediately armed with a P90, fully automatic assault rifle (and a 9mm Glock… to warm up?).

Buying the Xacti E2

A few people have asked how I got my Sanyo Xacti E2 so cheaply. Here is a video I actually shot (with my little canon) a couple days after the purchase and before the Xacti had arrived (November 29th?).
